The July 15th broadcast of Toonami saw what was supposed to be the broadcast of Episode 6 of Dr Stone season 3 but viewers found Episode 7 airing instead.

During the July 15-16, 2023 broadcast of Toonami, viewers of Dr. Stone had noticed that block had accidentally skipped Episode 6 of Dr. Stone: New World, which was originally scheduled to air that night; instead airing Episode 7, which was scheduled to air the following week.

To fix this error, Toonami aired Episode 6 of Dr. Stone season 3 on Saturday, July 22 at its regular timeslot at 12:30 a.m. ET, with Episode 7 scheduled to reair the following Saturday, July 29. The remaining four episodes are expected to roll out weekly as regularly scheduled come August.

As of July 28, 2023, Toonami has yet to release a updated lineup schedule for the month of August. Barring a lineup expansion or a schedule change, the current set of FLCL reruns will be completed on August 19, while the mid-season finale of Dr. Stone: New World will have aired by August 25. FLCL: Grunge is scheduled to premiere on September 9.

A second cour of Dr. Stone: New World is presently in production by TMS Entertainment, scheduled to air in Japan this October 2023. Toonami and Crunchyroll have not released their plans regarding the English Dub distribution and broadcast of the second cour at this time.

This isn’t the first time a mistake or glitch at Cartoon Network Master Control had affected a show’s airing. Most recently, during the airing of the season finale of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon on December 11, 2021, the original intended airing of Episode 24 had Episode 21 air instead. As a result, Episode 24’s airing was later rescheduled to air on January 1, 2022. Back on March 16, 2019, the broadcast of Episode 6 of Sword Art Online: Alicization froze mid-airing, which would be fixed and re-aired the following week. During the Harley Quinn marathon on August 7, 2021, the show’s first season finale didn’t air, with a rerun of Episode 4 that aired earlier in the marathon being repeated instead. And back on October 26, 2003, in what was supposed to be the finale of The Big O season 2, fans instead saw a rerun of Episode 20. This was corrected a week later and the finale aired on November 2, 2003.

As Jason DeMarco himself has pointed out in a reply, a error of this sort “Happens on average once a year or two. Human error is still a thing even in this algorithmic age.”
