Since Dragon Ball Z first aired on Toonami in 1997, the Dragon Ball franchise has been a been a staple throughout Toonami’s history, with the original Dragon Ball also airing in 2001, Dragon Ball GT in 2005, DBZ Kai in 2014, and Dragon Ball Super in 2017. And that legacy is set to continue with Dragon Ball Daima in 2025, as it was announced on Toonami’s Facebook page on Thursday that Dragon Ball Daima will finally be making its way to the Toonami lineup on June 14th at 12:30 a.m. EDT.
To make way, Bleach and Blue Exorcist will move down the lineup by 30 minutes each to air on 1:00 and 1:30 a.m. EDT respectively, while One Piece will be reduced to airing one episode a week at 2:00 a.m. In addition, as the first episode of Daima will be 45 minutes long, Bleach and every show afterwards will air 15 minutes later than usual.
During the June 7th edition of Toonami, Toonami revealed the trailer for Dragon Ball Daima, which you can see below:
The sixth anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise, Daima serves as the “swan song production” of creator Akira Toriyama, as he would pass away during the show’s production on March 8th, 2024 due to acute subdural hematoma.
The series aired on Fuji TV in Japan and streamed internationally on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu from October 2024 to February 2025; to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball franchise. Dragon Ball Daima is 20 episodes in length.
The storyline takes place after the events of Dragon Ball Z and before the events of Dragon Ball Super. According to Akira Toriyama, Daima is a made-up term, though its Japanese characters are stylized as “大魔”, which has roughly been translated to English as “Evil.”
Much of the Funimation/Crunchyroll Dragon Ball cast have returned to reprise their roles, including Sean Schemmel as the voice of Goku and Stephanie Nadolny as the voice of Young Goku. The cast includes (via Crunchyroll):
