Dragon Ball Super to return from hiatus with “The Galactic Patrol Saga” anime and “Beerus” remake

At the “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri” event, Toei Animation revealed that the Dragon Ball Super anime will see a continuation with the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner” Saga in addition to a remake of the Battle of Gods Saga, titled “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus”. Plus a new Dragon Ball video game titled “Age 1000.”

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball franchise, Toei Animation hosted the “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri” event on January 25, 2026 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Prior to the event, Toei teased new announcements for the franchise that would be showcased, including a new Dragon Ball game, and two unspecified major projects.

During the event, with Goku’s Japanese voice actress Masako Nozawa and Executive Producer Akio Iyoku on the panel, Toei showcased a “Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Video,” which would see some of creator Akira Toriyama’s color illustrations and standout scenes “come to life.” This was accompanied with music by Hans Zimmer, known for producing award winning scores for the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, and Dune.

Alongside showcasing some of the anime’s accomplishments, the video revealed that the Dragon Ball Super anime, on an indefinite hiatus since the Universe Survival arc was completed in 2018, will indeed see a continuation with a new story arc, titled “The Galactic Patrol Saga.”

Canonically following the Universe Survival arc, this new arc will cover the Moro Saga, also known as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga in the manga. According to the official Dragon Ball site, “The main character, Son Goku, and Vegeta, work together with the members of the Galactic Patrol, the peacekeepers of the galaxy, to begin a SUPER scale battle against a new enemy, “Planet-Eater” Moro!”

The announcement was accompanied by a new key visual, featuring Goku and Vegeta in their Galactic Patrol uniforms. A release date for Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol has yet to be announced.

A new Dragon Ball game was also announced, titled “Age 1000”, which will feature a new original character designed by Akira Toriyama before his passing. The new game is scheduled for release in 2027. According to Toei, more updates for the game will be unveiled at “Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026” in the U.S. on April 18-19.

But that’s not all for Dragon Ball Super. Toei has also announced that they are producing a Remake/Remaster of the Battle of Gods saga, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. It is scheduled for release this Fall 2026.

Dragon Ball fans might remember back when Super was first released back in 2015, the early episodes of the show were quite subpar in regards to animation quality. While a lot of these errors were fixed for the Blu-ray release and the Toonami airing in 2017, Dragon Ball’s producers wanted to enhance the first arc in Dragon Ball Super even further to give the saga the proper adaptation it deserves. According to Toei in the Dragon Ball official website, “The project features extensive new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing with added score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. Living up to the name ENHANCED, this edition employs the latest visual expression to deliver greater power and immersion across all scenes, especially the battle sequences. The result is an ENHANCED edition that expresses Akira Toriyama’s original idea and worldbuilding more accurately, that will be broadcasted with highly satisfying quality.”

A key visual and images featuring these enhancements was released, which you can see below:
