An announcement Toonami fans have been waiting for since the finale of the first season of The Promised Neverland aired on June 30, 2019, Aniplex and Toonami have just announced that Emma and the orphans of Grace Field House will be making their return. The Promised Neverland’s second season will be premiering its English Dub on the block beginning on April 13 at 1:30 a.m. Eastern.

The Promised Neverland will replace SSSS.Gridman on the schedule, as the latter show will be airing its final episode the week prior on April 3. Alongside the return of The Promised Neverland at 1:30 a.m, Fire Force and Black Clover will move down the lineup by 30 minutes, airing at 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Eastern respectively.

The Promised Neverland’s second season began airing on Fuji TV in Japan on Jan. 8, 2021, following a three-month delay thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The simulcast is presently available for streaming on FunimationNow and Hulu. The show’s road back to Toonami follows a similar release window to its previous season, with the dub premiere scheduled three months after its simulcast. Season one premiered on the block on April 19, 2019, three months after its Japanese premiere on Jan. 11.
While the first season was well acclaimed by anime fans, which likely played a role in Toonami renewing the series, the second season has been less so among those watching the simulcasts. Much of this criticism is centered around Studio Cloverwork’s decision to skip over several story arcs from the manga, including the critically acclaimed Goldy Pond arc for this anime adaptation. Regardless, there are fans eager to see how the story goes and plans to conclude. Of course, tuning in is the best way to judge for yourself.
