Toonami will air the films Blade Runner Black Out 2022 and Blade Runner 2049 and during a special Black Friday broadcast on November 26.

This past Saturday, November 13, Toonami alongside Crunchyroll premiered the first two episodes of the Blade Runner anime series, titled Black Lotus. To commemorate the show’s premiere, among other things, Adult Swim showcased a drone show during the Adult Swim Festival prior to the show’s airing. However, this won’t be all Toonami has in store regarding Blade Runner, as to commemorate the franchise and to further promote Black Lotus, the block will have a special airing on Black Friday to showcase films in the Blade Runner franchise.

Although this special Friday night broadcast will rollover to Saturday morning, this will be the first time that Toonami aired on a weekday since April 16th, 2004. There will still be a regular scheduled Toonami the night after on November 27.

In regards to the schedule, this Saturday’s lineup on November 20 will see the block kicking off at midnight with Blade Runner: Black Lotus Episode 03, followed by a doubleheader of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon episodes 18-19 from 12:30-1:30 a.m. The doubling up of Yashahime is due to the replacement show for My Hero Academia, which has yet to be revealed at this time.

Toonami has also yet to officially reveal the schedule for November 27 as of this writing, but according to Swimpedia, the lineup is going to be the regular schedule with another doubleheader of Yashahime (episodes 20-21) from 12:30-1:30 a.m. Assuming this schedule is true, this will also be the same night the finale of Food Wars! Blade Runner Black Out 2022 is a 15-minute anime short film by Shinichiro Watanabe (known among Toonami fans as the director of Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy) and animated by Cygames Pictures. The short made its debut on September 27, 2017 and is available to stream on Crunchyroll and on Warner Bros’ YouTube page.

IMDB describes Blade Runner Black Out 2022 as follows:

In May 2022, only three years after the events of Blade Runner (1982), the new and improved Nexus-8 replicants of the powerful Tyrell Corporation have set in motion the violent human supremacy movement, causing a public backlash against the human-like synthetics. As the combat humanoid, Iggy Cygnus, saves the female replicant, Trixie, from certain death, he hatches a bold and dangerous plan to even the odds and ensure the future of the androids; however, with such a devastating weapon in their possession, the very lives of humans and replicants alike are at stake. Will there be a future after the Los Angeles 2022 blackout?

Blade Runner 2049 is the 2017 sequel to the original 1982 film Blade Runner, directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Blade Runner 2049 premiered in U.S. theaters on October 6, 2017, grossing $259.3 million in the box office during its theatrical run; but considered to be a box office disappointment as the film needed to gross over $400 million to break even. Regardless, the film was widely acclaimed by critics with a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 88% based on 442 reviews and received two Oscars and two BAFTAs, both for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.

The official synopsis from Warner Bros. is as follows:

Thirty years after the events of Blade Runner (1982), a new Blade Runner, L.A.P.D. Officer “K” (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former L.A.P.D. Blade Runner, who has been missing for thirty years.
