“Come on, don’t you want to know how we came to be born? According to the Order, Yuri Egin was the apostate who bore Satan’s sons, and all the data on her is classified. But I really want to know, the truth behind our birth, and why it’s all been kept secret. Do you seriously still not want to know any of that, Rin?”
– Yukio Okumura, Blue Exorcist (Ep. 57)
“Nope, sure don’t. I get the feeling it ain’t gonna be a happy story. So, what good would come from hearing about it now. And if our birthday gift [from Shura] was that our mother was a beautiful, kind person…then that’s enough for me.”
– Rin Okumura
The Toonami Trending Rundown for January 3-4, 2026. The first Toonami of 2026 features among other great moments, a Christmas episode from Blue Exorcist where Rin and Yukio also celebrate their birthday. In regards to this week’s social media buzz, #Toonami trended in the US on Twitter alongside Bleach TYBW, Blue Exorcist, and Mashle.
This week’s feature was a speech from TOM and SARA assuring fans that during these times of uncertainty, especially with the proliferation of AI deepfakes and the changing media landscape amidst the ongoing streaming service boom and bubble (especially with Warner Bros and Discovery planning to split after the failed merger and Netflix looking to acquire the former), Toonami is still standing and their mission of building you a better cartoon show remains the same.
On Friday, Toonami announced that Primal will make its return to the better cartoon show, with encore runs of season 3 at midnight starting on January 17. Every show from Bleach to Dragon Ball Daima will move down the schedule by 30 minutes to make way. Dan Da Dan will leave the schedule following the completion of its encore run on January 10 in the interim, with the show set to return for season 2 on a date still to be determined.
New episodes of Primal will air on Sundays starting on January 11, with episodes available to stream on HBO Max the following day. My Toonami Squad colleague Szuniverse made a review of the season 3 premiere, which you can see by clicking here.
Not much else to say other than to keep supporting Toonami as always and we’ll see you again next time for another round of the better cartoon show. Later.
