High on Fire’s newest collaboration, an animated music video for “The Black Plot,” will make its world premiere during Toonami on Adult Swim on tonight at 12:41 AM Central / 1:41 AM Eastern after Gundam IBO. Directed by renowned artist Skinner (www.theartofskinner.com), the project was put together by the visual arts team “Hey Beautiful Jerk” (www.heybeautifuljerk.nyc) who has also worked with acts such as Mastodon and Run the Jewels who both also have had music videos premiere during Toonami on Adult Swim.
“The Black Plot” is taken from HIGH ON FIRE’s latest album, Luminiferous, a record hailed as “masterful” by Pitchfork and “badass” by Consequence of Sound.
“The video plays out like a psychedelic fever dream reminiscent of the 1981 cult classic Heavy Metal, when the genre was still at the forefront of its creation.
So many elements of a sci-fi fantasy classic are involved here: an ancient witch-priestess with powerful healing psychotropics, the warrior protagonist slaughtering masses of talon-bearing deadeye demons, even the crowning of a new ruler of this underworld. It’s a great fucking time set to one of the best tracks from last year’s Luminiferous.” – Kelsey Chapstick from metalsucks.net.
Tonight, alongside the release of “The Black Plot” video on Adult Swim, HIGH ON FIRE’s celebrated albums Snakes for the Divine, De Vermis Mysteriis and the aforementioned Luminiferous, will be issued on cassette for the very first time via eOne. The cassettes will be released as a limited edition bundle pack, which is available for preorder now – http://www.indiemerch.com/eonemusic/item/41825
The “High on Fire” Band is also holding a contest tonight during the premiere, host a viewing party, post pics and tag them on Facebook for a chance to win some cool prizes!
