Toonami Trending Rundown for April 6-7 and 13-14, 2024

Last Updated on by Daniel Limjoco

“Congratulations, Chisato. The beginning of your new life on Earth has been made possible for my death. I wish for your happiness from the bottom of my heart.”

–          Shinji Yoshimatsu, Lycoris Recoil (Ep. 13)

This Toonami Trending Rundown is a double feature for the nights of April 6-7 and 13-14, 2024 as Lycoris Recoil comes to its conclusion.

For the night of April 6-7, #Toonami trended on both Twitter and Tumblr, alongside Ninja Kamui and Zom 100 on Twitter. Meanwhile for the night of April 13-14, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside Ninja Kamui, Zom 100 and Lycoris Recoil. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr.

This won’t be the end for Lycoris Recoil, as last year, it was announced that a “new animation project” for the series is in the works. Whether this will be a direct sequel to Chisato and Takina’s story, or will follow another Lycoris is to be revealed. And whether this will be a sequel film, an OVA, or a sequel season is to be determined. Hopefully we’ll see Chisato and the girls of LycoRico back on Toonami in the future, but regardless, it was a fun ride.

Unfortunately, Toonami does not have a replacement show ready at the moment, so in the meantime, we’ll be getting a doubleheader of One Piece at the 1 a.m. hour.

We got two episodes left in Ninja Kamui’s first season and Toonami has announced consecutive marathon nights for the first season the week after the show’s season finale on May 4 at midnight. Episodes 1-7 of Ninja Kamui will be broadcast on May 11 from Midnight-3 a.m., while Episodes 7-13 will air on May 18.

In addition, judging by this announcement post, Toonami seems to be all but confirming that a second season will be green-lit. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted on that front.

There are concerns that these two marathon nights as well as a possibility of a third for Memorial Day on May 25 could be a stalling tactic by the schedule makers until contracts for additional shows can be finalized. Whether that’s true or not is presently speculation, but for more on that, check out my Op-Ed titled “The 2020’s Anime and Streaming Service Bubble Burst,” as I look into the controversies regarding the Warner Bros Discovery merger, the Funimation-Crunchyroll merger, their respective effects on Toonami, and how what’s going on with both could lead to another anime bubble burst, and one for streaming services overall.

Not much else to say other than congratulations to UConn and South Carolina for winning the men’s and women’s National Championship respectively, and stay gold as always.

Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold. The number next to the listed trend represents the highest it trended on the list (not counting the promoted trend), judging only by the images placed in the rundown. For the Twitter tweet counts, the listed number of tweets are also sorely based on the highest number shown based on the images on the rundown.
