“All right! Hang in there, Captain Yami. No matter how tough they are, I’ll Take them down I’m going to keep our kingdom and the whole world safe.”
– Asta, Black Clover (Ep. 170)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for October 9-10, 2021. After a nearly four-year run that began on December 2, 2017, Black Clover’s current run on Toonami ended with a bang, as the block aired a doubleheader of the final two episodes of the show’s fourth season (169 and 170).
For this week’s trends on Twitter, #Toonami trended in the United States alongside Fena: Pirate Princess, Food Wars, and Black Clover. Meanwhile on Tumblr, #Toonami would also trend. The full list, including statistics and tweet counts from the Twitter app, can be seen below.
These final two episodes won’t be the complete end of the Black Clover franchise, as the anime has been put on hiatus primarily to allow series creator Yūki Tabata more breathing room to continue writing the manga storyline. When Black Clover’s run came to an end in Japan on March 30, 2021, it included an announcement that an anime feature film is also in the works.
For the past four years, Black Clover has been a main staple on the better cartoon show, alongside other Shonen Jump hits including My Hero Academia, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and the Naruto franchise. The start of the show wasn’t so well received, with critics citing its highly cliché storyline and writing, and quite a few fans have questioned whether the show even deserved a spot on Toonami. Indeed, back at SDCC 2016, a group of manga critics called Black Clover one of the Worst Manga of 2016. But the show eventually grew on people, the show itself found its stride, and nowadays it’s considered to be among Shonen Jump’s best and most popular anime and manga series.
In the meantime, if you wish to continue reading the Black Clover series, check out the manga which is licensed in the United States by VIZ Media. If you wish to pick up the manga where the anime left off, we recommend starting at Chapter 270. Where this franchise goes from here is one to be determined for the future, but for now, I think I can speak for every Black Clover fan that we look forward to what is next for Asta, Yuno, Noelle, and the entire Clover Kingdom and their allies, as they plan to attack the Spade Kingdom and save their friends. Thanks for the memories, Black Clover, and we’ll see you again soon.
Tune in tonight for the penultimate episode of Fena: Pirate Princess, alongside a special airing of the Batman Ninja and Batman: Under the Red Hood to commemorate this year’s DC FanDome event.
But wait, if you haven’t heard, that’s not all Toonami has for us this month from DC Comics and Batman. Next Saturday night, October 23, in addition to airing the finale of Fena: Pirate Princess, Toonami will showcase the 2021 direct-to-video superhero animated film Batman: The Long Halloween. The film is split into two parts of 85 and 87 minutes respectively, and Toonami will air them both consecutively. Part 1 will air from 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., while Part 2 will air from 2:30 a.m. to the block’s end.
