This Toonami Trending Rundown is for the month of August 2026. This month marked the conclusion of My Adventures with Superman’s third season.
For the night of August 1-2, #Toonami trended in the US on Twitter alongside My Adventures with Superman. #dc also trended on tumblr. Meanwhile, for the night of August 8-9, #Toonami trended in the United States on Twitter. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr alongside My Adventures with Superman and DC. And during the night of My Adventures with Superman’s season 3 finale on August 15-16, #Toonami and My Adventures with Superman trended in the US on Twitter and on Tumblr.
Finally, the nights of August 22-23 and 29-30 were marathon nights, as Toonami encored all 10 episodes of My Adventures with Superman over the course of two weeks. During those nights, only #Toonami trended in the US.

In regards to the future of the franchise, DC Comics is presently hard at work creating a spinoff centered around Green Lantern, titled My Adventures with Green Lantern. As for a season 4 of My Adventures with Superman on the other hand, the decision to produce one or not is still undecided from the producers at Cartoon Network, Warner Bros Animation, DC Comics, and Warner Bros Discovery overall.
Prior to the season finale, My Adventures with Superman creator Jake Wyatt posted this thread on Twitter on how things are going regarding that front:
“My Adventures With Superman has not yet been renewed for a fourth season. Views have been great! Our best ever. Our stakeholders—DC Studios, Adult Swim, HBOmax—have been great to the show. But each has to chart its own future in an uncertain, unstable climate. That takes time.
However it turns out, getting to make our third season was a gift from everyone involved, especially our team and our viewers. I learned more on S3 than on any other project, and I’d love to bring those lessons back to Superman—but I’m grateful just to have taken the ride.
One last thing: Peter Safran and James Gunn saved our show from the chopping block, renewed us for a third season, and gave us a spinoff. It’s a weird time in entertainment, but if My Adventures With Superman doesn’t get a fourth season, it won’t be because they didn’t support it”
Unfortunately, Warner Bros Discovery and the entertainment industry in general has been going through a lot of uncertainty, given that they in the midst of another merger with Paramount/Skydance that’s presently in litigation due to antitrust concerns, combined with the ongoing streaming service bubble and the general downturn in the US and Worldwide economy in recent times (due to inflation, tariffs, and the like), which are factors that might make executives hesitant in investing in a fourth season. Regardless of what happens, it was a fun ride from Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and company, and hopefully we won’t be seeing the last from them.
In the meantime, September will mark the month of Scavengers Reign, as Toonami will air three episodes a week over the next four weeks, with all 12 episodes airing to be shown in the course of a month.
Toonami has yet to reveal their full plans for October onward, but they have announced that they will be airing a brand-new Adult Swim original series, Get Jiro. Based on a graphic novel by the late Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose and published by DC Comics, the series will be 10 episodes long, with Toonami airing a doubleheader of the first two episodes airing in the midnight hour on October 3rd. The series will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
This past month, we’ve said goodbye to several influential figures, including celebrated Hollywood stars Hayden Panettiere and Tim Curry, the Queen of Country Dolly Parton, the King of Norway Harald V, legendary ice hockey player, coach and broadcaster Barry Melrose, and within the scope of Toonami, anime and action cartoons, we remember the memories of Peter Cullen and Mike McFarland, two voice actors who have contributed to the block’s success over the years.
On the morning of August 27, 2026, the family and agent of Peter Cullen have publicly revealed that Peter Cullen, the longtime voice of Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, has sadly passed away yesterday in his Los Angeles home at the age of 85. According to TMZ, Peter died from cardiac arrest complicated by respiratory arrest and lung cancer.
Raised from humble beginnings in Montreal, the Canadian voice actor would become the voice of many childhoods over the years, voicing the likes of Optimus Prime in Transformers, Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, Monterey Jack in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, KARR in Knight Rider and the title character in Predator.
Peter also lent his voice to many film trailers and television commercials, most notably being the “Voice of God” or “Big Guy” announcer in many Toonami promos during the 2000’s. Peter was also the narrator in Toonami’s first original series IGPX in 2005. Due to old age and ailing health, Peter Cullen semi-retired from acting since the 2010’s, mainly focusing on continuing to voice Optimus Prime in his later years. As such, he would not return for promos during Toonami’s revival era since 2012, with his “Voice of God” roles being replaced by Howard Parker.
Two weeks later, it was confirmed that we had also lost Mike McFarland after a nearly two-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 56 years old.
A highly regarded Voice Actor and ADR Director particularly in the anime industry, Mike was a regular contributor to Funimation/Crunchyroll since 1997, serving as the ADR Director for titles including Dragon Ball, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, Attack on Titan, Rebuild of Evangelion, and Summer Wars.
He has also lent his voice to many characters, including being the English voice of Master Roshi & Yajirobe in the Dragon Ball franchise, Buggy the Clown in One Piece, Gordon in Black Clover, Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist, Jean Kirstein in Attack on Titan, Kotaro Amon in Tokyo Ghoul, Ojiro & Ectoplasm in My Hero Academia, and more. Mike’s work is and has regularly been featured on Toonami, and he had often posted his enthusiasm for the block on Twitter on Saturday nights.
