Following the announcements that Get Jiro will see its world premiere on October 3rd, with the US television premiere of Wind Breaker airing a week later on October 10th; Toonami has revealed the schedules for October 10 and 17, 2026, announcing that Gachiakuta will also be joining the better cartoon show on October 17 at 1:00 a.m. EDT.
Gachiakuta, which roughly translates into English as “Legit Trash”, is an anime and manga franchise written and illustrated by Kei Urana, complemented with graffiti designs from Ando Hideyoshi. Serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since February 2022, the manga has over 19 volumes and 173 chapters and counting.
The anime is animated by Studio Bones and directed by Fumihiko Suganuma, with series composition by Hiroshi Seko and character designs/chief animation direction by Satoshi Ishino. The first season is 24 episodes in length and first aired in Japan from July 6 to December 22, 2025, on Japanese News Network (JNN) stations, with international simulcast streaming on Crunchyroll. A second season is presently in the works.
Gachikuta has received plenty of acclaim and popularity over the past year since the anime first premiered at Anime Expo 2025, which no doubt helped its case for a Toonami airing. In the 2026 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Gachikuta was nominated for awards in over 16 categories, winning awards for “Best New Series,” “Best Background Art,” and “Best Character Design.” Gachikuta also received honors in the Japan Expo Awards in France, being awarded the Darumas for “Best Anime” and “Best Action”; while the AnimamiA Awards in Germany awarded the show their “Best TV Series: Online” award, and the Anime Trending Rewards nominated it for awards in four categories.
Gachikuta’s success has also led to the development of an RPG video game by Com2uS Group titled Gachiakuta: Breakout. It’s scheduled for release in 2027 on all the major gaming platforms except the Switch.
The show’s synopsis is as follows:
Crawl back from the abyss of Hell to change this lousy world!
Rudo lives in the slums of a floating town, where the poor scrape by under the shadow of the rich who live a sumptuous life, simply casting their garbage off the side, into the abyss.
Then one day, he’s falsely accused of murder, and his wrongful conviction leads to an unimaginable punishment—exile off the edge, with the rest of the trash.
Down on the surface, the cast-off waste of humanity has bred vicious monsters, and if Rudo wants to have any hope of discovering the truth and seeking vengeance against those who cast him into Hell, he will have to master a new power and join a group known as the Cleaners who battle the hulking trash beasts of the Pit!
